Dorm Size Beds & Extra Long Beds - Finding Comfort in Your New Surroundings

Reaching College can be the educational turning point in many young adults' lives. Leaving the comfort of home and venturing out. Many turn to college housing and dorms to find their new surroundings. However many of these are either unfurnished or are furnished with bedroom furniture that just isn't suitable for the college bound student. Many have decided turning to extra long beds or dorm size beds as they are also referred to. Just because you're leaving the comforts of home shouldn't have to mean that you can't be comfortable in your new home as well.

Not everyone is familiar with twin extra long or full extra long beds and there are just some basic differences from standard sizes. XL beds will offer greater length above and beyond that of regular twin or full size beds. In a dorm room environment this can be a huge plus as it gives the user a queen length bed but in either a twin or full size width. Considering the modest size of most dorm rooms once you start adding additional furniture there just isn't room for the wider queen or king size beds and this is why extra long beds make good sense.

Dorm size beds present a couple of things to consider when purchasing your bed. First you'll need a twin xl or full xl mattress depending on what size you want. These are often pretty simple to find as there are many mattress manufacturers out there that make these sizes for the general public. Although not always stocked they certainly can be ordered. The next component you'll need for your dorm bed is the bed frame. XL or extra long sizes in beds can be a little tougher to find but the certainly exist. Most of these will typically be platform bed style beds which accommodate just a mattress which is just fine as this will help provide extra space beneath the bed allowing for additional storage beneath the bed. The final components you'll need are twin extra long or full extra long sheets for your mattress. These are typically sold in sheet sets and can be purchased through most major retailers and specialty shops.

You don't have to be uncomfortable on a standard twin or full size bed. Extra long dorm beds offer greater length and comfort over most standard beds. When space is limited in the room these beds make perfect sense in helping to save space but at the same time increase the sleeping length of the bed to something more comfortable. Hopefully this article has offered some insight into alternative bed sizes available for dorm rooms and will help someone find a more comfortable bed for that smaller space.
