All About Your Mattress - Queen Size

A mattress, queen size comes with the advantages of letting the user sleep literally like royalty. It has lots of sleeping space so that even if you have to share the bed with another person, you will still be able to feel the comfort of having your own personal space. Of course, it may not be as huge as the one you would get from a king-sized bed but it's good enough for people who don't sleep all across the bed.

But just like any other mattress type, the queen does have its pros and cons. It is not always a suitable choice for every need. Getting a mattress in queen size can be a good choice given the right product and the right conditions.

Size matters - dimensions
Generally, a mattress in queen size is second only to the king mattress in terms of size. The standard queen is 60 inches wide and 80 inches long although there's also the larger Olympic queen which is 66x80 inches, again still smaller than the standard king. The mattress is big enough to comfortably accommodate two regular-sized adults and probably an additional little child.

Advantages
The queen mattress is a good choice for the guest room or if you have a relatively smaller master bedroom where a king sized bed may not be able to fit in comfortably. It's also good for newlyweds or couples who have just started living together and are not planning to have a family anytime soon. The good thing about the queen is that it's big enough for two adults but not too big that it could fit into a particularly small room that is typical of most apartments these days.

The queen is also a suitable choice for singles that tend to sprawl all over the bed when sleeping. There's more than enough room to toss and turn all across the bed with this one.

If you have a mattress in queen size, looking for beddings will also be relatively easier. Sheets for this size are relatively more affordable compared to king sized ones. They are also easier to find as most stores carry this size. Your bed will probably need two to three standard-sized pillows.

Downside
In terms of mobility, getting a mattress - queen size from one room to another or to another home may be a bit difficult. The size of the whole thing can make it really hard to move so if you are apt to change addresses real soon and you don't have anyone to help you out, it's better if you forgo getting a queen for the moment.

Broad built and overweight people may also find the queen a bit cramped for comfort especially when it is shared with another person. There can also be much confusion in terms of sheets especially if you're not all too sure about the dimensions of your mattress. There are some manufacturers that inappropriately mark bedding set as queen size but when you try it on, the sheet wouldn't fit the mattress. To prevent this, you will probably need to be sure about the dimensions of your bed before purchasing your sheets.

The mattress in queen size is a good option as a whole but only given the right circumstances. Make sure that you assess your needs first before settling on any type of mattress to prevent encountering a lot of hassles in the future.

How To Assemble A Futon Frame

Most futons are made very similar and use the same parts to assemble them. When shoppers buy their futon they often have a set of instructions that came with the futon frame. Time passes and these instruction disappear or get misplaced and it's time to move the futon. Not having assembled futons on an everyday basis, it may not be immediately clear how the futon goes together. In this article we'll examine the parts and assembly of a standard futon frame to hopefully help those who may have lost instructions.

Laying out the parts:

When you purchased your futon you most likely had 6 main wood parts. 2 arms, 2 rails and a seat and back section. The back section looks different than the seat section as it has 3 pre drilled holes on the sides with the wood sides extending down to allow the seat section to be connected to it. Versus 1 or 2 holes on the seat section. Your hardware will consist of 8 bolts, 8 barrel nuts (shaped like a barrel), 4 nylon rollers, 6 metal pins, 6 washers and 6 cotter clips, allen wrench.

Attaching the hardware:

Take the 4 nylon rollers, 4 metal pins and 4 cotter clips and locate the wood backrest of the futon. It will have the three holes drilled into each side. Two of these holes are close together and the 3rd hole is towards the bottom of the side. This hole by itself will connect to the seat section. The nylon rollers have two ends. A small round top and a larger round bottom. The larger round bottom is placed against the wood over the hole and a metal pin is pushed down through the small round top through the roller and out through the hole in the back rack. On the other side slide a washer over the pin use your cotter clip and push it through the small hole in the metal pin to secure it. Repeat this step for the other three nylon rollers.

Next find the wood seat section and locate the hole closest to the end on the side. (Sometimes wood seat sections have two holes. The second hole towards the middle is for attaching what is called a kicker block. Your frame may or may not have this.) After you have located the holes on the ends of the seat section lay the wood seat and back sections face up meaning the slats in these section are facing up or are closest to the top. Now take the 2 remaining metal pins and push them through the remaining holes in the sides back section in through the holes in the seat section. Slide a washer over each pin and secure it with the remaining cotter clips.

Attaching the arms and stretchers.

Locate your two wood arms and two wood stretchers. Look at the arms and notice that one side of the arms has two routed out grooves. During assembly these routed out grooves need to face inward towards each other. Next, locate your two stretcher rails. These rails will have 4 small circular holes drilled out on the one side of the stretcher on the ends. During assembly make sure these holes face in towards the holes of the stretcher across from it. Take your barrel nut and place it inside one of the holes intended for the barrel nut. Barrel nuts usually have a phillips or flat screwdriver point and make sure this is facing out. Also make sure the threaded hole in the barrel nut lines up with the holes in the ends of the rail as your bolt will need to thread into them. Now take the bolt and push it through the outside of the arm and into the rail threading it into the barrel nut and use your allen wrench to wind the screw into the barrel nut. Repeat this step on the other bolts leaving them loose. On the rail that is closest to the routed out grooves in the arms leave two of your bolts out and make sure this area allows you to move the arm outward somewhat. [The reason for this is to make sure we can spread the arms enough to get the seat and back section into the frame without scratching our arms.]

Moving the back/seat section into the frame.

The backrest has 2 nylon rollers on each side. The top roller needs to be lined up with the routed out grooves in the arms that go up and down. If you installed the rollers correctly, the end of the nylon roller will fit into the groove and will push into it. (If it doesn't, your rollers are installed backwards, take them off and flip them around so that the larger part of the roller is against the wood.) Now take the bottom rollers on each side and line them up into the routed out groove that runs left to right. [This step might require a helper to get the rollers lined up in the grooves.]Important Note: Make sure that the seat and back section slats are facing upwards to where the mattress will rest right on them. If it looks like the mattress will sit down into the back and seat section because the slats are facing the ground, you'll need stop and flip the decks over and do this step again.

Finishing assembly.

Now finish putting the remaining two bolts and barrel nuts into the back arm and connect them together as discussed in the above step about attaching arms and stretchers. Go ahead and tighten all of the bolts. Tight enough but not too tight. Your futon should now be ready for use.

I wrote this text version of futon assembly instructions as a guide to help those who are missing assembly instructions. Often you can contact the futon company you purchased your futon from for a set of replacement instructions. However, if that isn't an option, I hope this guide will get you through the process of re-assembling your futon so you can start using and enjoying it once again. Many websites also include picture instructions you can use and this page futon assembly instructions might also be of help to you.

Why Air Beds Are Very Cool

There is nothing quite like the feeling of sleeping on a comfortable bed. Some people go to great lengths to find that perfect bed and ensure a good night's rest. But sometimes that rest is compromised when you have to go out of town to visit someone else's home where the beds are not as comfortable. They may have a mattress that feels like it has a brick base, or a water bed that leaves you feeling seasick all night.

For those of you who are extra picky about your sleeping arrangements, it is a good idea to give yourself the assurance you need that you will be guaranteed a restful sleep. And for many, this assurance has been provided with the availability of new and very comfortable air beds. These unique air beds stray a bit from the traditional air bed that's close to the ground; some new ones have the look and feel of your favorite bed at home. Let's take a look at some of these beds and see which one you might want to purchase for that home-away-from-home experience!

Double-Layer Comfort Raised Air Bed with Built-In Pump

This is one of the most unique air beds available because it serves as a great alternative to the average air bed. It is top flocked to give the look and feel of a traditional mattress. Inflated, it has 81 x 61 length/width dimensions, which compares to a traditional queen-sized mattress; and it stands at a height of almost two feet - the height of a normal-sized bed. Unlike traditional air beds, this bed comes with a built-in dual action electric pump, which is beneficial to those who don't like to carry the extras around, including a large pump and batteries. This bed also has patented double comfort coil construction, making it comparable to your home mattress - sounds like a winner to me!

Air Bed King Remote Control Air Bed

This standard-sized Queen bed is definitely of the few unique air beds out there. This bed has a quality-tested 20.8 gauge waterproof flocked top with super-thick sides that give it a 600 lb weight capacity. Like the previous air bed, it includes a built-in electric pump and is so comfortable you don't even need sheets - though it easily accepts queen-size fitted sheets. But these great characteristics do not define the best part of this bed. This bed includes a tethered remote control to provide you with quick and easy inflation and adjustment. Without you having to set one foot off of your bed, you can gradually release air to reach the perfect level of firmness you're looking for. They also boast about their "patent pending dual chamber construction that utilizes double I-beam layered architecture through independent air chambers," which in layman's terms means you are guaranteed comfort and support through this firm and stable mattress - pretty cool!

Air Bed King Memory Foam Air Beds w/ Inflatable Back Rest

One of the great conveniences of an air bed is that fact that you can blow it up, use it, deflate it, and pack it away in a corner as if it never existed. This fascinating phenomenon is already unique, but adds extra characteristics to it, and your air beds turn into unique air beds with all of the bells and whistles. The memory foam air bed speaks to the core of uniqueness with its built-in comfort. To prove how comfortable they wanted you to be, they included and inflated back-rest to allow you to sit up and read or watch TV without having to prop yourself up. This bed is a grand Queen with 96" x 62" dimensions, leaving plenty of space for you and a loved one, and it holds up to 700 lbs of weight - not bad! Like the previous air beds, this bed has a built-in air pump and is waterproof flocked on the top and sides. It also has a wireless multi-directional remote control. And, of course, the best part is when you're done you simply deflate it, fold it up, and pack it away in its carrying bag which has a shoulder strap for extra carrying ease.

An air bed can be a great way to give you the comfort you desire in a bed - and it can be a great addition to your home, especially if you don't have an extra bed or bedroom for out of town guests or visiting offspring. The technology that has surfaced in this day and age has excelled to great heights, resulting in the creation of some of the most unique air beds available on the market. The comfort they provide give you or your guest the feeling that you're in your own bed, without having to make space an issue. These great beds are too convenient - and affordable - to pass up. So what are you waiting for? Check out these and other unique air beds today!

Looking For That Perfect Children's Bunk Bed?

Searching for a great bunk bed for your child can be confusing. I'm sure you have many reservations about bunk beds. Are they safe? Is your child old enough? What should you look for in a bunk bed? Hopefully you will find some answers in this article.

Question 1; Are bunk beds safe?

Bunk beds are safer now than ever. Better materials, better construction, and better design have all factored into a much safer bed than even a decade ago. Most bed bunk accidents are a result of horseplay, in fact, most injuries are from teenagers jumping around on the beds, especially college dorm lofts and bunk beds. As long as safe practices are observed, your child should be fine. Teach them to never jump on the top bunk and how to use the ladder correctly.

Guard rails on bunk beds are regulated by the government now and must conform to certain specifications. There can be no more than 5 inches between the top of the mattress and the bottom of the guardrail. This ensures your child will not slip through.

Another safety practice you should look for is the use of a Bunkie board. This will keep the mattress secured in place and not allow it to shift which might result in gaps. These gaps or unforeseen openings can cause the mattress to slip. A Bunkie board will keep the mattress securely in place.

Question 2: Is my child old enough to sleep on the top bunk?

Most experts have agreed that your child should be at least six years old before sleeping on the top bunk. But who are these experts and why are they qualified to arrive at such a conclusion? Nobody really knows who the exact people are but studies have shown that most children have achieved a certain maturity by age six. But only you can determine if your child is ready or not. No one knows their children better than the parents and if you feel your child is ready, then he or she is ready.

Question 3: What should you look for when purchasing a bunk bed?

A couple of things first decide if you want a metal bunk bed or a wooden bunk bed. Metal can be very strong and hold up to some heavy punishment, by the natural beauty of wood is the preferred choice, mostly because it provide a more comfortable and pleasant décor.

When looking at wood, you should decide if you want solid wood or manufactured wood. Solid wood is very strong and most solid wood beds are made from pine. The beauty and finish of a solid pine bed will last for years, possibly generations. Manufactured wood is usually wood particles that are pressed together. Manufactured wood is cheaper and can still be strong but will lack the natural wood appearance of solid wood.

When you're evaluating children's bunk beds, remember the above tips. You sleep better yourself knowing that you've made a better, more informative purchase. Most bunk beds sold, either in retail stores or on the Internet are perfectly fine. Manufacturers and merchants alike want nothing but the safest experience for your child.

How to Heal Eczema on the Scalp

Eczema on the scalp can be very stubborn and downright embarrassing for those who suffer from it. Side effects of this area can create unattractive dandruff and scarring on the scalp that makes for a very frustrating condition. However, there are a number of very simple and effective ways of getting rid of the dryness and itching on the scalp that can help alleviate eczema symptoms.

First off, I recommend going to a dermatologist and getting an allergy test. Allergy tests will allow you to see what exactly is triggering a reaction in your skin. The simple procedure takes only a few minutes and involves placing various liquefied foods and substances on the skin in order to observe a possible reaction with each one. The result will be itchy and inflamed skin wherever an allergic substance is and normal skin wherever there is no allergen.

Once you've taken a look at what some of your personal eczema triggers are with a doctor, you can begin to see just what you need to avoid in order to heal eczema on the scalp. Avoiding foods like fish, eggs and tomatoes are often a simple and easy way to reduce inflammation for people with eczema. However, it is important to know what your personal eczema triggers are, which can really only be learned through experience and testing, before you start making dietary changes.

Another great fix for eczema on the scalp is medicated shampoo. The best shampoo for relieving itching and dryness of eczema is selsun blue. It heals the damage done to the scalp and can decrease the presence of any symptoms you are suffering from with simple over the counter medicine.

I would also recommend cleaning and vacuuming once or twice per week as well as changing your bed sheets on a regular basis. This can greatly diminish the presence of allergens such as dust and pet dander where you sleep and where you relax during the day.

If you are still struggling with eczema after trying some simple changes, I recommend taking a look at my website for further information. It helps to have a reliable system to treat your eczema that is based on years of experience and intelligent methods rather than blind guessing or one or two helpful tips. To check out my site and find out about a system that has helped heal eczema for hundreds of people around the world, just click the link below.

Sleep Number Bed Reviews

Many people who are interested in purchasing a new bed are looking for Sleep Number Bed reviews. The company has a marketing plan whereby the consumer can take the bed home and test it for thirty nights. They refer to it as the thirty-night challenge. Many people have taken this opportunity to try it out for themselves. There are both positive and negative thoughts on these beds; however, we are going to focus on the positive at this time.

Sleep Number bed reviews find that many people prefer the Select Comfort mattress used by the Sleep Number Company because unlike a traditional mattress, it cradles your body on a cushion of air, which reduced the uncomfortable pressure points that lead to tossing and turning. Thus, it contours to your body allowing for superior comfort and excellent back support.

Sleep Number Bed reviews have found that nine out of ten couples agree that this type of bed is much better that their previous one. A bed is built for two people in mind because of the ability to adjust either side of the bed to that persons particular preference. For example, one side can have a different firmness or softness or a different elevation that than the other depending on the persons needs.

The Sleep Number bed numbers simply refer to the firmness of the mattress. Some people find that all the settings are fine for them. It is a matter of personal preference. The idea behind the Companys thirty-day challenge is that they feel that once a person becomes used to sleeping on one of their beds that after thirty days there is no way that they will want to return it. This strategy has proven to be very effective for the Company.

Sleep Number bed reviews continually support the idea that if you suffer from back pain or other aches and pains in the morning that sleeping on one of these beds will reduce your aches and pains by allowing you to have a much more comfortable nights sleep. Many aches and pains are simply caused by uncomfortable sleeping habits. These types of beds consist of adjustable air chambers which when controlled by the touch of a button change the settings of the mattress.

What Sleep Number bed reviews do not usually reveal is that the price of these beds is quite high due to the technology involved. However, they are covered by a twenty year guarantee.

Outdoor living has really become a popular activity. People are spending more and more times in their backyards and on their patios. Chairs and other outdoor furniture have taken on some new meanings of importance, because they are being used so much. Outdoor furniture has become much more stylish and comfort conscience.

Patio cushions were once very utilitarian, but now they are much more stylized. The appearance has become as important as the function. The demand is for high quality, chic patio accessories.

Types

There are plenty of types of furniture for the patio that include chairs, some of the furnishings look as if it came right out of the living room. Gone are the days of the ugly folding chairs with the nylon webbing. It is crafted from an array of materials, often times the focus is on natural materials to compliment the landscape. There is patio furniture crafted from all kinds of woods, there is furniture that is crafted from teak, bamboo, rattan, and of course the hardwoods are always a favorite. Red wood and oak has made a comeback in recent years. There are other options for patio furniture as well; there are metal framed options and PVC options. Weather considerations make most patio furniture with removable cushions so that the cushions can be protected from the elements. Patio chair cushions usually can be removed from the patio furniture quite easily and stored during inclement weather if the patio is not covered. Patio chair cushions add extra comfort and style to patio chairs.

Styles of Cushions

It unfortunately is not built primarily for comfort it is usually built for durability the style and comfort is left up to the cushions to lend support in that arena. Patio chair cushions are usually very comfortable and stylish. They come in an array of patterns and colors, not to mention shapes and sizes. Usually the manufacturer of the patio furniture will offer options when it comes to the styles of the cushions.

Patios chair cushions are usually also sold separately, so they can be replaced if need be. They are a great way to update older patio furniture. Patio chair cushions are exposed to a lot of weather abuse, even if the patio is a covered patio there is still weather experienced by the furniture and the patio chair cushions, the wear and tear is incredible, usually they only last two seasons or so, may be three if they are protected more often from the elements. What Mattress Should I Choose For My Baby? Innerspring Or Foam Mattress?

Because of the increasing popularity of foam mattress, parents might think that this is the best crib mattress for their baby. After all, we are living in the foam technology era. You have a lot of options such as latex and memory foam mattress. These are integrated with cutting-edge foam technology that allows it to conform to the body's contours and provide better support while redistributing body weight and lessening pressure points.

But then most of us grew up sleeping on an innerspring mattress and we didn't really experience many problems about it. What many parents fear nowadays is the condition called SIDS or Sudden Infant Death. This is a condition wherein the baby suddenly dies in their sleep for no reason at all. Many experts say that the mattress they are using might be too soft to offer the support their body needs. Others say it is the suffocating crib that triggers this condition.

Since the real cause has not yet been identified, it is our duty to look for a mattress that will totally prevent this problem from arising. This is why more and more parents opt for foam mattresses. These beds provide better support to the back to reduce not only pressure sores but also the likelihood of suffocation. However, memory foams contain chemical ingredients that may pose a threat to your baby's life when they continuously inhale its chemical fumes. Latex is a much better substitute because it is a natural ingredient. Its main ingredient is rubber tree extract.

We should not completely disregard innerspring mattress either. The key there is to find the right innerspring bed with the correct number of coils. Go for those brands of mattresses with only 150 coil count. This is just the right number of coil that will provide a semi-firm mattress comfort to your baby. Popular brands such as Sealy, Simmons, Serta and Colgate produce mattresses like this.

When you are choosing, always consider the best for your baby. Make sure it does not contain harmful chemicals that they might inhale as they sleep. The mattress should also provide semi-firm or firm comfort level for better support. These mattresses should also be converted into a toddler bed so you won't have to buy another one when your baby grows older. Also consider your budget. If you are under a strict budget, you might find yourself buying innerspring mattresses. But if you are ready for a splurge (or an investment), you might want to consider an organic foam mattress.

Depression After Weight Loss Surgery? Explore a Variety of Beneficial Treatment Options

Reports of depression and sadness are not uncommon for people who have undergone gastric bypass, gastric lap-band, and gastric sleeve surgical procedures for the treatment of morbid obesity. While we often think that weight loss will end our depression and sadness these feelings linger long after the weight is gone. There are many treatments available for mild to severe depression. It is important for patients to work with their bariatric center, primary care doctors and a mental health professional as they seek treatment for depression. Below are common treatments, both medical and natural, for the treatment of depression.

Prescription Medication for Clinical Depression:
For clearly diagnosed clinical depression Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), such as sertraline (Zoloft), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine, and citalopram are the primary medications considered, due to their relatively mild side effects and broad effect on the symptoms of depression and anxiety. These are prescribed by a doctor and closely monitored throughout the course of care for the patient.

Natural Treatment for Mild Depression:
For mild depression, what I call sadness, there are some things we can do to relieve the feelings of sadness or depression and hopefully reduce the cravings for carbohydrates that we so often experience.

Exercise:
While it is true that exercise plays a key role in our weight loss and weight maintenance, it is also known to improve mood. Studies indicate that regular exercise can be as effective a treatment for depression as antidepressant medication or psychotherapy. The University of Texas at Austin found that just 40 minutes of regular exercise can have an immediate and positive effect on mood. The exercise does not need to be strenuous, just consistent. Additionally, exercise improves self-esteem thus enabling us to better cope with the everyday demands of living. Experts suggest we exercise in a natural setting, which has a positive effect on our mental health.

Herbs & Supplements:
5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and an intermediate in tryptophan metabolism. It is marketed in the United States and other countries as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid.

St John's wort is most widely known as an herbal treatment for depression Standardized extracts are generally available over the counter, usually in tablet or capsule form. St. John's wort is also available as a tea. Studies indicate St. John's wort had similar efficacy to standard antidepressants with a lower rate of side effects.

Magnesium deficiency is common for many surgical weight loss patients and may cause depression. Supplementation or changes in diet may be helpful to improve magnesium deficiency. Foods rich in magnesium include whole grains, beans and seeds, halibut and spinach. Magnesium supplements are also commonly available.

Sleep:
Depression is commonly associated with poor sleep - difficulty going to sleep, early waking and general lassitude during the day. The two interact to worsen the condition of each other. Good sleep hygiene is therefore important to help break this vicious circle. This would include measures such as regular bed times, avoidance of stimulants such as caffeine and management of disturbances such as sleep apnea.

Meditation:
Meditation has been shown to be of benefit in a number of ways, including lowering blood pressure and stress levels. The most helpful and gentle form of meditation for a clinically depressed person may be the repetition-silently or aloud-of a mantra.

Get A Good Night's Sleep On A Bean Bag Chair Bed

Living a normal, stress free life is almost impossible these days. After a hard day at work, most people find it impossible to relax and leave work at work. A comfortable home can go a long way towards helping ease the stress but you have to have a great bed to sleep in at night in order to let your body fully relax and get a good night's sleep. After all, that is the key to living a productive but fulfilling life. A bean bag chair bed may just help you to achieve the best night's sleep you could ever imagine.

Most people have to work so hard to make a living these days that they often end up neglecting their everyday lives in order to succeed. The cost of living is extremely high, so high in fact that it is a wonder that people do manage to survive. Working yourself into the ground may seem like the only solution, but you do need to relax and a bean bag chair bed is the perfect item of furniture to help you do that. You can relax, read a book, watch TV or just fall asleep curled up on your bean bag chair bed and recharge your batteries ready for the next day's work.

Bean Bag Chair Beds And Support

Whilst a regular bed can provide support and comfort for a few years, a bean bag chair bed can provide unrivalled comfort and support indefinitely. The nature of a bean bag chair bed is such that it will mould to your body shape but automatically return to its regular shape when you move. As a result, the support it offers is unparalleled. A regular bed will eventually simply bow beyond repair. Bean bag chair beds are less likely to do that because they return to shape more quickly.

Another advantage bean bag chair beds have over regular beds is that they are recyclable, as such. With a mattress from a regular bed, the springs go and you have to replace it every few years. A bean bag chair bed can just be refilled or restuffed after a few years when it does start to sag. Refilling is much cheaper than buying a new mattress and a lot easier too because you can have the stuffing shipped to your home at little cost and do it in your own time.

Every individual should aim to get a few hours of relaxation in every day. With a product like the bean bag chair bed, it is not hard to make sure that you get those hours in. The comfort, support and cheap nature of the bean bag chair bed make it impossible to resist so give into it! You know you want to!

A Special Place to Sleep For Your Little Princess

There are lots of different styles of furniture that are made to sleep in that are made with the little princess in mind. They are made in all styles with different materials and some even have a crown made right into the headboard. For a truly royal sleeping place that lets her know she is one of a kind, nothing is more luxurious for your little girl than an awning covered divan that is full of ruffles, lace, and tons of femininity.

Getting her to go to sleep has never been as easy as it is with her own princess covered divan. You can choose between twin or full size depending on the room you have and the needs of your child. You can also choose the material that the frame is made of including wood or metal. For smaller pieces of furniture, you will find some models that are made of plastic.

There are some frames that are guaranteed to be 99.9% germ free and finished with wood powder coated on the surface. They are revolutionary to the touch and the wood is crafted with absolute precision. Some also come with all the bedding and the awning but you can find many styles that allow you to pick the linens and coverings that suit her style.

You will also find some of the designs for younger children that include their favorite cartoon characters. Most of these are available in twin size but some also come in full sized. She will feel safe and happy with her heroes close by to watch after her while she sleeps. Although these are good for those children who are making the transition from the crib into their first real piece of furniture, they aren't likely to be useful for a long period of time. Keep in mind that when she changes heroes, she will most likely want to change her furniture as well.

College Dorm Furniture - A Great Space-Saving Idea

College dorm rooms are typically minimal and tight spaces for furniture. Furnishing them requires creativity to accommodate enough furniture for comfort while also creating an attractive environment.

In a dorm room, furniture is the biggest issue. When we're dealing with inches of space to spare rather than many feet, multi-purpose furniture is required!

Futon furniture is an amazing solution for the needs of a college dorm room. All futons are combinations of comfortable sofas and sleeping beds; many perform triple duty as both couches and loungers as well as sleepers.

Futons are designed to fit in small spaces. They derive from Japanese housing, where room sizes were limited. Sure, there are also futon sofa-sleepers created for what seems like heavy French chateau room decor, but most futon sofas available today have college dorm rooms and small home guest rooms in mind.

Today's futons are attractive couches. They are constructed in elegant finished wood, unfinished pine, or modern-style metal frames, with or without arms and with or without mattresses, pillows, and cover accessories. There are hundreds of different futons, designed to fit even a very limited budget. You can purchase futon frames and mattresses on the Internet and have them delivered to your door at a very reasonable cost.

You can buy futons individually (mattress and frame separately) or in complete sets. Futon mattress and frame sets are typically created with a futon mattress and futon frame that come from the same manufacturer, which ensures that they will fit and work well together and will arrive at your door on the same pallate (in one delivery).

Futon covers zip on and off, and can change the entire appearance of a dorm room or guest room in a heartbeat! Futon covers come literally in a thousand solid colors and designs so you can complement your room decor or create a brand new look. Futon covers can be cleaned repeatedly, but once you tire of that look, you can change just the cover to completely change the look of your college dorm room. Accessorize with pillows or bolsters to coordinate a room design or just make your wonderful futon sofa even more comfortable. Futon covers and bedding are even available in the colors and logos of your favorite college.

One caveat to bear in mind: Full size futon sofa sleepers are easy to move and easy to operate. They require only one person to manipulate them; that is, one person can convert the sofa to a sleeper and back. In many cases, even an older child can handle it. They are relatively small so they will fit in many tight spaces.

Queen size futon couches, on the other hand, are quite a bit larger and heavier, primarily because of the queen mattress. They really do require two people, one on each side, to manipulate them to avoid flopping one side down, potentially damaging mechanisms that would last much longer if they were handled carefully. Queen futon sofas are too big anyway for most college dorm rooms!

Futons are wonderful, useful pieces of furniture that work well for dorm rooms, guest rooms, and even kids' rooms. They give you the flexibility you want to make these spaces your own. The general rule is: keep it simple. Then settle in and enjoy your own comfort zone!

Full Loft Bed - Maximize Your Dorm Room Space

Many college students who live in dorms have to deal with the little spaces available for them. Many of them do not have enough space to keep all their things in their dorm rooms. Fortunately there are now loft beds designed to help these students maximize the limited space that they have. If you want to have more space for your school materials you can replace your regular bed with a loft bed. If you have a roommate, you can have a full bed to accommodate both of you and at the same time have more storage space below.

A loft bed is like a bunk bed with an empty space below it. You can put cabinets there to store all your books and your other school stuff. You can also put there a study table and a lamp so you can have a comfortable study area.

The space can also be used to organize your clothes. You can add hanger racks for ironed clothes or drawers for smaller pieces like your boxers or undershirts.

If you want to have a personal space away from sight of other dorm occupants, you can put curtains around the space to give you the privacy that you need. There you can do your own stuff away from the prying eyes of your roommates.

The space can also be converted into a receiving area if you have guests. Just add a few stools or folding chairs and you are all set to invite friends to come and visit you.

To use the space for the purposes mentioned here you usually need to bring in your own materials like your own cabinet or your own study table. However, there are also loft beds that you can buy with built in cabinets or tables already. A full loft bed with built in accessories are generally more space efficient so if you have the budget, buy that instead of the one that has none.

Dealing With Dents and Scratches in a Wooden Table

If you have decorated your home with country decor chances are you have a wooden table as a part of your furniture. If the wooden table you have is made of a soft wood it is going to be exceedingly prone to dents and scratches. So, what do you do when these occur? For many people, damage to the table is a source of frustration. They want their tables to look new and beautiful and at the same time want to be able to use it. The good news is that a dent or scratch is nothing to cry about. There are simple steps you can take to make them go away.

Scratches

The most likely thing that is going to happen to your wooden table is that it is going to get a scratch. This could be from something as simple as someone sliding a plate across the table, a child rolling their toy across the surface or even relocating that lamp you have on the tabletop.

The first thing to do is assess the scratch. Is it a rather shallow scratch? If you have a very shallow scratch it is possible that all you need is a coating of furniture polish or wood polish to fill it in and make our wooden table look like new again. Often these scratches are nothing more than a scratch in the finish on the wooden table and not the wood itself. If you have a deeper scratch, you can go to the hardware store and will be able to find wood filler. Often, you can find the filler in the same color as the table is made out. Read the instructions and apply as recommended which usually means place a small amount of the filler on a cloth and wipe it across the area that is scratched. Sometimes, you will need to then follow this up with an extra coat of finish or sealer that had been used on the table originally to make it all looked the same.

Dents

A dent is a little harder to deal with. First, you have to consider how big of a deal the dent really is. Can you live with it? If not, it is a time to prepare for a bigger project to remove it. For the most part, this process means you have to sand down part of the table. What you will want to do is sand the surface around the dent, to make the whole area around it on the table top even once again. Once the sanding is complete you have to refinish the table. This means a coat of finish, paint or stain to make the table look the same way it did before you began your dent removal project.

A couple scratches and dents do not mean the end of the world for a wooden table. With a little know how and a little patience you can make your table look new again.

Wall Beds and What They're Made Of

In today's wall bed market there are a number of wood materials that these beds are constructed out of. Four of the main materials used in constructing a wall bed are Particle Board, MDF Board, Ply Wood, and Solid Wood. Each material has unique qualities that lend themselves to the operation and structure of your Murphy bed. Each material type is outlined below to give you a better understanding of why it is used, what it is best used for, and what to look for when choosing your perfect wall bed.

Particle Board

Particle Board is an engineered material used primarily for exterior furniture surfaces. It is composed of highly compressed wood pieces, or particles, which gives the material its name. In Murphy beds, it's chief use is for exterior surfaces, because its guarantees a smooth surface and is less likely to warp or crack over time. Particle board strength is measured by its PSI, which gauges the compression of the particles together, and therefore the overall quality and strength of the board as a whole. A cheaper product will be composed of cheaper particles, and therefore have a lower PSI. Industrial strength particle board is much stronger, and has a much higher PSI rating. One thing to note is that particle board may contain amounts of formaldehyde, and it is important to be aware of this when furniture will be used in nurseries, or other highly sensitive spaces. Newer age board does not utilize formaldehyde in its construction so be sure to ask when purchasing a Murphy bed that has particle board components.

MDF

MDF is a material similar to particle board and has the same usage as an exterior surface wood since it results in a smoother surface and is less likely to warp and crack. MDF, however, is a much more refined product. It is also composed of wood particles, but they are much, much smaller than those that particle board is comprised of, resulting in a slightly smoother texture. Consequently, this decrease in particle size makes MDF a much heavier product than particle board. This increases its structural use, but also makes your wall bed much heavier, which can be a hindrance when installing or moving your Murphy bed.

Plywood

Plywood is a material that is generally stronger as a structural material than particle board or MDF. Plywood is constructed of several thin layers of wood, and can also be called layered board. The wood used to create the layers in plywood is generally B grade wood, which individually would not be strong enough for use, but when layered together creates a much stronger material. Use of plywood minimizes the chances of warping, which makes it desirable for exterior surfaces of a wall bed, as well as interior. Be cautious when selecting a wall bed that utilizes plywood as a main structural component, however, as knots in the wood layers can create instability. If one layer of the ply wood has a knot, it creates a point of weakness that can be transferred throughout the wood.

Solid Wood

Solid Wood is the material that is most used in wall beds for structural composition. This is the strongest material available, and is consequently the material used most often for the most important part of the bed: the structure. Solid wood is generally not used as an exterior material for several reasons. Solid wood can naturally warp, leading to visual imperfections which decrease the overall appearance and structural performance of your wall bed. It is also difficult to guarantee and align specific grain patterns when using solid wood, creating greater difficulty when used for exterior purposes. Solid wood is also very expensive, and unnecessary use is wasteful in our limited eco-system. Murphy beds that utilize solid wood as their main structural material will be extremely strong, but for aesthetic purposes solid wood is not recommended as an exterior surface.

Bedrooms to Dream About

A good night's sleep will impact on your physical and emotional health. It can impact on how you perform at work and how you cope with stress - either in your personal life or career. Being tired can increase your risk of mistakes, and if you're driving a car, it can increase your chances of an accident. Some scientists have made a correlation between poor sleep and cancer, saying lack of sleep can interfere with the body's defence mechanisms. Studies have also said poor sleep can make you obese, impact on your mental performance (crucial if you're a student taking exams!), and trigger depression.

One of the things you can do is invest in bedroom furniture - especially a decent bed - that will help create a functional and aesthetic environment designed to help you drift off into a peaceful slumber. There are several things you can do to aid sleep.

Keep your bedroom clutter free and tidy. This can help empty your mind. This is especially true for those who are clean freaks or tidy-uppers. If your wardrobe is over spilling or there are dirty mugs on your bedside table, it can leave you feeling restless.

- Invest in bedroom furniture that helps you relax. A bedside table with a bedside lamp is important if you love to read in bed - this means you won't have to physically get up to switch the light off. And a decent bedside table will give you space for your glasses, book, cup of cocoa and night time paraphernalia.

- Buy a big, beautiful bed you'll long to sink in every night is of course essential. A lumpy, small or uninviting bed isn't good enough! And invest in cotton sheets and good pillows.

- Turn your bedside clock to the wall. Yes, you may need it for its alarm but watching the early hours tick by will only make you anxious and self conscious about getting to sleep.

Bedrooms should be restful, peaceful and inviting rooms. Consider soft fabrics and cushions and ensure you invest in thick curtains or black out curtains and soft lighting. Investing in beautiful and functional bedroom furniture is your fundamental building block to a good night's sleep.

How to Fix a Sagging King Mattress

Are you having trouble with your sagging king mattress? You are not alone. Did you know that a huge percentage of the population of people complaining about a sagging mattress actually use a kind bed? It would seem like a king-size mattress is more susceptible to sags than other types of bed. I would not like to go into the whys of the matter, just the how's.

The first thing you might want to do when you notice very noticeable and uncomfortable sags on your mattress is to contact the manufacturing company. They will ask how bad the mattress really is and how deep the sags are so you have to put up with those queries first. Someone will pick it up from your house so they can fix it. You need to have a separate mattress where you can sleep on for the next two weeks or so.

This method works for some but to many, they again experience the sags after a few months. What to do? Here are a few tips that might actually help you out:

1. Get a good mattress topper. The purpose of the topper is to somehow camouflage the sags in your primary mattress. You might want to choose something with a significant thickness to it. This beats having to purchase a different mattress worth a thousand bucks. Mattress toppers are cheaper solutions. You can always go for memory foam toppers or latex toppers if your current mattress is giving your back aches.

2. You can rotate the mattress for a quarter turn at a time for every month. Do this and you will even start to see those sags slowly flattening out. It won't inconvenience you either since the position can still allow you to sleep comfortably. Also, the covers are fitted quite nicely.

3. Do a little mattress maintenance twice a year. Clean it or take it outside and fluff it up a little. This will help spruce up its deteriorating condition.

The next time you buy a mattress, make sure it is one that can withstand sags for a long period of time. Usually, an ideal mattress can last for at least 15 years before the sags start to appear.

Making the right choices beforehand will not give you this problem. So see to it that you are buying just the right mattress before sealing the deal. This way, you can save yourself a lot of annoying moments.

King Size Mattress - Sleep Like Royalty

King Mattress

A king mattress is a spacious mattress that gives you lots of room to move around during the night so that you are more comfortable, and many people prefer the king size mattress, especially if they have a sleeping partner. Let's look at how you can make a good decision when shopping.

Different Kinds

Not all of them are the same. A standard is seventy-six inches wide by eighty inches long while a California king is seventy-two inches wide and eighty-four inches long. This means that if you are taller than six feet that your feet may hang off of standard size mattresses, including a stand king. The California king may help take care of that problem, although you will be losing four inches of width in exchange. A standard king is the best choice for most people. You should determine prior to purchasing your mattress if you actually have room for it, however. Leave enough room between the wall and the mattress so that you are not crowded and can easily make the bed up.

Quality of Choices

When it comes to purchasing a mattress, always choose the highest quality that you can afford. Economy mattresses may seem to be a good deal at the time, but they tend to wear out more quickly - which will just necessitate you replacing the mattress sooner than later. Poor quality mattresses may not provide as much support to your back and neck as other options - which can lead to health problems and unnecessary pain. Is it really worth saving a few dollars to give up a good night's sleep for years to come? Your back doesn't think so.

Types

There are different types of mattresses in a king size that you might choose. Pocketed coil system mattresses are great for equally distributing your weight and the weight of your sleeping partner and will distribute the weight of your body away from certain points. A continuous coil system is great for couples who do not want to wake the other when getting out of bed. Memory foam mattresses eliminate pressure on the body and also eliminate the transfer of motion - but these are typically very expensive choices - and some people complain that they sink too far into the mattress or that the memory foam mattress causes them to sweat excessively at night.

Oversized Kitchen Tables

The kitchen is a place of function. Its purpose, obvious enough, is the preparation of nutritious and delicious foods. However, the space can also serve a second more social purpose. The warm air, the delectable smells, and the friendly atmosphere all contribute towards making the kitchen a great place for people to come together and talk and love and enjoy one another's company. That's where the kitchen table comes in.

The table is the gathering point, the social center of the space. It's the excuse to come in, sit down, and have a chat. It provides a reason for being there, and is a natural beacon for the ones you love.

The problem is, in such a functional location, often you simply don't have the room for a kitchen table. You don't want to interrupt the flow of the space because that would interfere with the chef, and if you make the kitchen feel cluttered and over stuffed nobody is going to be comfortable in there anyways.

One way to avoid these problems is the use of angles. Find a random corner; a square table can usually be pushed neatly into it. This effectively eliminates half of the table's floor space, leaving the other half open to use.

Another thing to consider is square versus round tables. A square table may butt easily into a corner, but if it is floating in the center of space, a round table will actually take up less room. That is because the round table doesn't have any edges sticking out into the space.

Another thing you should consider is forgetting the table, and going with a smaller, more out of the way seating and setting option. A bar top is considerably smaller than a table, yet it provides the same function. Bar stools can be butted up against it, and food can be served on its surface. A lunch shelf can also serve a similar purpose.

By thinking creatively you can often fit a kitchen table, or something similar, into a space that you might otherwise never think could hold such a piece. Examine your angles, and decide whether you can afford to give up the floor space. If you can't, consider smaller options to help make ends meet.

Children's Choices in Furniture For Sleep

As children grow, their needs change and that includes their need for furniture. When they sleep, they need to have their own furniture that is the right size to suite their needs as well as the size of their rooms. A single sized sleeper is the right size for a variety of ages and a good quality piece of furniture can last throughout their childhood. When your child is ready to make the transition to sleeping in real furniture, a single size piece of furniture that is designed for children will provide you with years of use if you make the right choice.

If you have a small room where the furniture will go, a popular choice these days is an all-in-one. These are pieces of furniture that combine different pieces into one and may have one or two single sleeping areas. The benefit of an all-in-one is that it takes up part of the vertical space in the room in addition to the horizontal space, leaving more of the room free.  You will find a variety of these pieces styled in different ways to allow for desks, storage, computer display, and wardrobes. Although they work well to keep things organized for children, they may outgrow their use later on. However, for many people the convenience is worth it.

Another option for those without a lot of space are the single sized sleepers that come with drawers underneath. This is another option for providing more storage space in the same area that the furniture will take up regardless. You will also find designs for girls or boys in a variety of finishes to match other bedroom furniture.

If you are more concerned with providing a comfy sleep place for your children on a budget, there are certainly less expensive choices that will work too. Some of the least expensive options on the market are those with metal frames. These are available in a wide range of colors so that you can find a favorite color or match the décor of the room. With two children, you can also let them each choose the color that they like the best so that each has their favorite color!

If money isn't an issue, then it is a good idea to look for high quality furniture that is going to last even longer than your children will be children. Single sized sleepers are great for children but they can also be used for visits later on. You may find that your children want to take theirs with them when they have little ones of their own!

Before buying furniture for your children's sleeping needs, make a list of the features that are most important to you. Consider the space that you have since furniture tends to look much smaller in the furniture store than it will in your home. Decide if you want it to match other furniture or if you are going to purchase dressers or other furniture to match. Also, consider quality and your budget so that you know what you are willing to spend to get the right furniture for your children's sleeping needs.

Dorm Size Beds & Extra Long Beds - Finding Comfort in Your New Surroundings

Reaching College can be the educational turning point in many young adults' lives. Leaving the comfort of home and venturing out. Many turn to college housing and dorms to find their new surroundings. However many of these are either unfurnished or are furnished with bedroom furniture that just isn't suitable for the college bound student. Many have decided turning to extra long beds or dorm size beds as they are also referred to. Just because you're leaving the comforts of home shouldn't have to mean that you can't be comfortable in your new home as well.

Not everyone is familiar with twin extra long or full extra long beds and there are just some basic differences from standard sizes. XL beds will offer greater length above and beyond that of regular twin or full size beds. In a dorm room environment this can be a huge plus as it gives the user a queen length bed but in either a twin or full size width. Considering the modest size of most dorm rooms once you start adding additional furniture there just isn't room for the wider queen or king size beds and this is why extra long beds make good sense.

Dorm size beds present a couple of things to consider when purchasing your bed. First you'll need a twin xl or full xl mattress depending on what size you want. These are often pretty simple to find as there are many mattress manufacturers out there that make these sizes for the general public. Although not always stocked they certainly can be ordered. The next component you'll need for your dorm bed is the bed frame. XL or extra long sizes in beds can be a little tougher to find but the certainly exist. Most of these will typically be platform bed style beds which accommodate just a mattress which is just fine as this will help provide extra space beneath the bed allowing for additional storage beneath the bed. The final components you'll need are twin extra long or full extra long sheets for your mattress. These are typically sold in sheet sets and can be purchased through most major retailers and specialty shops.

You don't have to be uncomfortable on a standard twin or full size bed. Extra long dorm beds offer greater length and comfort over most standard beds. When space is limited in the room these beds make perfect sense in helping to save space but at the same time increase the sleeping length of the bed to something more comfortable. Hopefully this article has offered some insight into alternative bed sizes available for dorm rooms and will help someone find a more comfortable bed for that smaller space.

Give Kids the Furniture They Need With an All-In-One

If the biggest problem you have with furnishing your child's room is not having enough room to put everything that you need, then an all-in-one piece of furniture can be the answer you have been looking for. In the same amount of space that the bed is taking up now, you can provide all of the furniture needed to sleep, keep clothes and other items tucked away in storage, and provide an adequate space for a computer, printer, and chair that allow for studying!

In addition to providing all of the furnishings your child needs on a daily basis, many of these all-in-ones have an extra bed underneath that folds out like a trundle bed whenever he has an overnight guest.

The advantage offered by one of these pieces of furniture is that it takes up vertical space that isn't used by traditional types of furniture. If your child needs an area for a computer with a convenient pull out keyboard table but you don't have the extra room to move in a piece of furniture where he can set up a study or computer area, then this is the solution to your need for space.

You will find that most of these styles are versatile and allow you to move the different components to whichever side or position that works best for you. Have lots of room for a big monitor and computer tower and still enough room to write. A ladder will access the bed on top and on most styles, you can put the ladder where it is most convenient, too!

Some of these all-in-ones are made from sturdy wood and are solid pieces while others are made from metal and are designed with an open style. Those that are open will provide less our of sight storage space for your supplies but still offer the room needed for computer, monitor and tower without taking up extra space.

To get a loft bed with another bed beneath and have a full section for computer and files, you can choose one of the all-in-ones that have the bed sticking out from the bottom in the opposite direction of the upper bed. Although this does take up more room, it does provide more room for the school work and computer area.

If you are concerned with furnishing your child's room with coordinated furniture, what better way that to use an all-in-one that will give them a number of options and a lot of style. Choose from eco-friendly furniture that is made from wood from a sustained forest or from a variety of styles and finishes that suit your child's taste. You will be able to use the extra room for other things like a TV and game consoles where entertainment can be enjoyed after the homework is finished!

Having a place to do homework and having all the supplies needed close by can make a big difference in the quality of work your child does. If you are short on space, don't worry. You can give them everything they need in the space you have available!

Now Your Child Can Have A Stimulating Environment With Space Saving Kid Furniture

Don't you wish you could make the perfect bedroom for your child? A stimulating environment encourages exploration and play that can help your child grow from a helpless little toddler into a confident and emotionally strong youngster. You have that chance to create this kind of healthful environment when you set out to furnish your child's bedroom. I would like to offer some ideas that could help you achieve this.

Bedroom furniture should be a combination of fantasy and reality. For very young children, the difference between the two is a fine line which you can make the most of. A combination of small, kid sized furniture and regular sized furniture is manageable to a young mind. Children love a place that is sized for them and they where they are not always reminded of being little. Miniature foam sofas and chairs are available. These come in colorful, imaginative prints and are not overly expensive. An added benefit is some of these open out into an off-the-floor cozy bed for your child's "sleep-over" friends. Your child can move and rearrange these all by themselves because they are so light weight. Usually stressful on parents, sleepovers will be easier and more fun filled if you are prepared with appropriate bedding beforehand. There are many types of fold-out form furniture - foam loungers, foam sofa-sleepers, and futons that already on a moments notice.

Every one loves a rocking chair, especially mom and dad. Beanbag chairs and loungers are more suitable for children - comfortable and sized for them. Beanbags will conform to a child's body shape as they sit in it, giving support to the lower back, shoulders, and arms. You can purchase beanbag chairs and couches in many styles, as well as stimulating colors, numerous textures, and zillions of prints. There are stars and moon patterns, or wild animal designs. Others come in lime green and other bright colors, while some have a wet-look vinyl cover or a furry cover. Some beanbags are even shaped like a horse or elephant. My children and grandchildren love these animal character beanbags.

Because they are so lightweight, beanbags and foam furniture can easily move them around any way they they wish. Such independence!! Which ever you choose, beanbags or foam furniture, be sure to purchase the type with hidden, cloth-covered zippers that make it easy to remove the cover for washing. Many of the zippers available are safety zippers that stay shut and keep the beans inside.

The more open floor space in a child's room the better. This is where they will make their pretend world, spreading out their toys, dumping Legos, having tea parties with their stuffy animals and friends. They will arrange and rearrange this world everyday. But making this floor space open and useful can be difficult when the youngest child gets the smallest bedroom. Multipurpose furniture that can change shapes for different needs will be a wise investment for smart parents.

I found a great solution to this space problem with my own children - futons. A futon is a comfortable and lightweight couch for sitting during the day - a place you child and their will sit and chatter, or place you and your child to sit and cuddle while reading a book together. At night, they magically become a comfortable bed, off the floor, for your child's overnight guests. Kid futons are relatively inexpensive because there is no need to purchase a separate mattress.

Sitting with your child and reading to them has been shown to be one of the best things you can do with your child. This is a quite time, a time for focusing, relaxing, and relating to each other and to the characters you are reading about in the book. This is the time of day for drawing out life's lessons. Reading out loud to your son or daughter stimulates their imagination, expands their vocabulary, and starts them on a life long journey of reading on their own. Getting kids to bed is much easier if they have just been reading than if they have been watching TV or engaged in other high energy or emotion activity. Tip: leave the TV and computer in family areas where you can monitor what they watch and play, not in the child's bedroom.

After reading and its time for sleep, the futon couch will unfold into a cozy and comfortable bed. It is much easier for a child to relax and go to sleep after just having had a loving time reading with mom or dad than one who just watched a fast paced TV program. The next morning, the child's futon bed easily folds back into being a futon couch and again freeing up all the valuable floor space, allowing your child to once again create their imaginary world all day long.

As your child grows the type of furniture that will be useful for your child will change. Bunk beds or futon bunk beds are great space savers of that precious floor space. Kids can climb on bunk beds, practicing these skills in a safe environment. In pre-teen years, when kids learn to bond with friends outside the family, the sleep-over stage reach it peak, as often as once a weekend. Bunk beds are once again a space saving piece of furniture. And this is the age when kids no longer really want to sleep on the floor. Futon bunk beds combine a single sized bed on the top and couch on the bottom that folds into a double bed when needed. Rising above the world of disarray and clutter (if you have a son), the futon bunk bed is the ultimate space-save for a child's bedroom. A Bunk bed and especially a futon bunk bed will be a useful and satisfying investment in your children.

Bedroom Furniture Design - How To Find One That Suits You

Bedroom is the part of the house where you stay most. Furniture utilized in the room will define your personality. Choose pieces which will last longer. Choose designs that will never go out of style. You also select furniture pieces which are sturdy and will maximize the money that you use in buying it.

Look for pieces which are unique. It adds to the bedroom's ambiance if you find something that is worth keeping. Though it might look different from others, this will bring identity to your bedroom.

The bedroom furniture that you need to consider is the basic ones like the bed, mattress, blankets and pillows. Closet is also additional furniture for the bedroom.

The most important part of the bedroom is the bed. The size of the bed should be appropriate to the size of the room. You should leave enough space for movement and action especially for cleaning under the bed. If you have a small room, you can look for beds with wheels for easier movement and transport.

Next is the bed mattress. This should match the bed size. Choose the kind of mattress which is comfortable for you. Choose the types which are not too hard or too soft where you will experience discomfort like muscle pains when you wake up. The type of mattress to be utilized depends on the age of the user.

The height of the bed also matters. It should not be too high and it should not have any pointed edge that might cause accident. Linens such as blankets should serve its purpose. It should give warmth and protection during sleep. It should weigh right and not too heavy. Pillows should also have the right softness or harness. The number of pillows depends on how many you would it to be.

Closets should not be taken for granted. It should fit inside the room and it should contain all your clothes. For smaller rooms, you can choose closets which are movable or those with multi-function. You can also add smaller closet organizers like shoe cubes and hamper bins which can be removed when not in use.

Lastly, add a feature to your room. Add something that can turn out to be special. It is like adding a black item in an all white room or using a blanket with cartoon characters when the theme of your room is contemporary design.

Memory Foam Mattress Toppers and Pillows Guide

A memory foam mattress can drain your wallet fast. But what if you could get the same technology, the same restful sleep, for as low as a hundred dollars? It sounds too good to be true, but memory foam mattress toppers can bring the comfort of memory foam to your bedroom, no matter what your budget.

Memory foam has the unique ability to change density in response to heat and pressure. This means that it cushions pressure points while providing support for hollow areas, such as the neck and lower back. You immediately feel a difference when you lie down. Your entire body can relax without bending into uncomfortable positions to conform to a flat spring mattress. You can sleep through the night without waking up to flex tired muscles or change position. And, when you wake in the morning, those aches and pains are gone.

You can have that technology for a fraction of the price of a full mattress with a mattress topper. Toppers are thinner layers of memory foam that are designed to sit on top of a traditional mattress. They are available in two to five inch thicknesses and require no installation. Simply slip the topper onto your traditional mattress and make the bed. Suddenly, your firm, uncomfortable mattress is transformed into a softer, cushioned surface that still provides the support you need. Some sleepers who find that a memory foam mattress has too much give actually prefer a topper due to the extra support of the traditional mattress underneath.

When choosing a topper, it is best to be able to feel various densities and thicknesses of foam. For many, a two inch topper is ideal. For others, it makes very little difference in their comfort. Each person's body is unique and has different sleep posture needs. With a topper, you can choose a style that is best for your body. Most retailers have wonderful return policies. Unlike bulky mattresses, memory foam mattress toppers are easy to bring home - and take back, if necessary - making them an even easier investment.

However, the product will not make a sagging mattress more even. It requires a firm surface to support it, just as a memory foam mattress requires a firm base on which to sit. However, if your bed gives you the feeling of sleeping on a rock, a topper is an inexpensive, quality way to improve your sleep. No matter what your lifestyle is like, you deserve to live it to the fullest, refreshed and well-rested.

Bed Sizes

What bed sizes are available in the UK?

When looking to purchase a bed the first determining factor is size. Standard bed sizes in the UK are; singles, which are three foot wide by six foot three inches long, doubles which are four foot six inches wide by six foot three inches long, king-size which is five foot wide by six foot six inches long or super king-size which is six foot wide by six foot six inches long. Bed sizes are very flexible in the UK and manufacturers will often specify beds in a variety of additional widths and lengths which are available. In addition to this there are the "bespoke" manufacturers who will make a bed to the size and shape of your need.

Table of bed sizes:
3'0" x 6'3" (90cm x 190cm) - Single
4'0" x 6'3" (120cm x 190cm) - Small Double
4'6" x 6'3" (135cm x 190cm) - Double
5'0" x 6'6" (150cm x 200cm) - Kingsize
6'0" x 6'6" (180cm x 200cm) - Super Kingsize

Why size matters?
In 1988 sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski, director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre found that swapping an old bed for a new one could account for on average 42 minutes' extra sleep per night. Simply put, sleeping on the right bed is one of the most important things you need to do to ensure you're getting a good night's sleep. It is recommended that a bed should allow for six inches more than the height of the tallest person whom sleeps in a bed.

That means that at just over 6 foot I need a Kingsize mattress at the very least!

King-size is King
It's equally important to consider the width of your bed, when a standard double is only four foot six inches wide. Sharing a bed of this size effectively means two foot three inches each. Today the majority of the double bed market is for guest or spare rooms where space can be at a premium and for teenagers who like having the additional sleeping space, moving up from a three foot.

Today, King-size has the largest slice of the UK bed size market pie with the frequency of Super King-size and bespoke purchases increasing year on year, the demands and needs of people today have shifted from the 4'6" double days of the 20th Century.

The Choices of Computer Lab Furniture For Employees

Laboratory workers need comfortable furniture benches and tables to be able to concentrate on their work. With the inclusion of computers into laboratories, computer lab furniture should also be chosen with the same exacting standards as lab safety equipment.

The Set

Computer lab furniture consists of desks and workstations. Other components are keyboard arms, LCD holders, CPU holders, mouse drawers, computer racks, computer carts, and laptop desks. All of these should be selected with the user in mind. Children and adults have different needs; hence, the choice of appropriate dimensions for the laboratory's computer furniture.

To be taken into account is the floor plan of the laboratory and the number of people who can simultaneously use the lab computers at a given time. Also a critical factor is the type of laboratory research work done in the lab. There might be a demand for mounted LCDs, multiple mounts for multiple LCDs, and swivel-tilt monitor arms to meet the demands of busy work environments. These should be selected to go well with the furniture for a sleek school or professional laboratory look.

Computer desks should be selected for the purpose without disregarding design and comfort. Will these desks be joined for group work or separated for individual work? How will a back-to-back arrangement affect lab work or lab studies? The furniture should be easy to move around considering the changing dynamics in lab work or the type of work done in the lab. School labs however may not be too demanding about this requirement but they do require reliable lab furniture.

Clutter Free

Science laboratory classes are already packed with rows of tables and lab supplies and equipment. The addition of computer lab furniture would create a cluttered appearance and the additional furniture would take up more precious space to carry on their laboratory work. To maximize space and to do away with clutter, glass top computer desks provide more space for students. This is also a neat solution to cleverly hide ugly wires or cables.

Compact or smaller computer lab furniture allows more students to use the room as more space is utilized. Corner areas can also be used with especially contoured computer tables. The systematic arrangement of the furniture enhances the learning environment for students and transforms research labs into sleek professional laboratories.

Comfort

Using the computer for long hours daily can put a strain on the neck, legs, back and wrists. Adjustable computer chairs with sturdy but comfortable backrests can prevent or minimize injuries caused by too low or too high computer chairs or unstable chairs.

Interior Enhancements

Appropriate furniture and storage, as well as lab safety equipment must be organized for ease of access and maximum use of space; these are the cardinal rules for efficient and safe laboratory operations. Laboratories should also be visually appealing because employees and students work better in better and comfortable environments. Computer lab furniture can be especially designed to fit into the interiors to enhance the overall look of the lab.

Contemporary Bedroom - How to Keep it Simple and Inviting

Most bedrooms are not just for sleeping. We tend to go there to: relax after work, recuperate when we are sick, or just "hide away" from the world. Whether we read, watch T.V. or just want to be alone, our bedroom is a place that should make us feel comfortable and calm. So how do we maintain such a space and still keep it stylish? Go contemporary. Contemporary designs can be classified as using neutrals with agreeable accent colors. Here are a few tips and ideas for those that want a fashionable contemporary look while still maintaining a cozy relaxing space.

Let us begin with a few no no's (DON'Ts).

Stay away from floral patterns. As pretty as they may be, they don't fit into the contemporary look.
Minimize clutter. Find a place for things, even if it is under the bed or on a table in the closet - this helps maintain a calm atmosphere.

What are some big Yes Yes's (DOs)?

Try neutral colors for main things such as walls, floors, and basic furniture.
Choose textures or materials that are smooth, silky, or soft to the touch.
Identify a few different color schemes that you like and are representative of your personality.
Accent the room using solid colors from step 2 for things such as your comforter or duvet cover, pillows or shams, and pictures.

Depending on the area you live in, you will either have four seasons or two, beautiful weather and HOT. It makes sense to put together 2-4 sets of bedding. This might include at least one set of sheets, a duvet cover (which takes up less space then a comforter), 2 pillow shams, and 1-2 pictures. Rotating these few items around with the changing of the seasons will keep a clean and fresh look to your room while still maintaining that cozy warm feeling you have established.

Texture and colors set the tone and should invite you back to your place of solace. When deciding on a particular texture look at the thread count for cotton materials, the higher the number the softer it is. Bridal Satins are smooth, silky and emphasize a luxurious feeling. Paint swatches can give you a good idea of what solid color families match. Patterned items are harder to color match exactly and will fade over time. A color pattern that once looked good several months ago may not be as appealing now. Also, finding exact color replacements for the patterns may not be easy. Using solid colored items allows you to mix and match many different bedding items in the same color family.

If you order your bedding on-line, the colors you see are pretty close to what you will get. If you order a color swatch, focus on the texture of that swatch not the color. Because unless you get your product made from that exact roll in which the swatch was taken, the product you get can vary up to 20% lighter or darker from the swatch itself.

Texture and colors make the contemporary style room; take time to make it right. By mixing and matching bedroom sets throughout the different seasons you not only keep your room stylish but maintain that cozy feeling as well.

Platform Beds, Did Goldilocks Sleep In One?

Have you ever wondered just what kind of bed that Goldilocks found to be so comfortable? You remember that story, don't you? That's the story where Goldilocks found the last bed to be "just right". Well, anyway, to make a long story short, the last bed that she found in The Three Bears home was probably a platform bed. Now, in case you are wondering what a "platform bed" is, I will offer a quick rundown on what they are and how they can help you to sleep better.

These have been around for a very long time. Years ago, they were commonly called loft beds and were much higher off of the floor than they are today. This added height allowed more living space below and came in quite handy for those living in the smaller homes of the time. Today's modern platform bed frame is closer to the ground and is generally found to be 15 to 25 inches from the floor. However, if built correctly, a contemporary platform bed will add a lot of extra storage and living space to today's bedroom. Typically, the space beneath can be used as drawer space, storage box space or even built-in bookshelves. Many refer to these as the platform storage bed.

Platform beds are constructed of wood or metal or a combination of both. The more common is the wood platform bed. Sizes available are the same as for traditional beds. One can have a king platform bed, queen, full, and also twin platform bed. Styles include the traditional contemporary platform bed and the platform bed with an Asian influence. The platform bed contemporary style can be customized to fit in with any of today's decor. The oriental style includes the popular Japanese platform bed. The Japanese platform bed is popular due to its simplicity and the fact that it creates an illusion of more space. This bed also has the added belief factor of fostering good fortune. Whether or not the good fortune belief factor is true, this type of platform bed is great for those with little space.

Regardless of the style or size of platform bed that you get, the key to a good night's sleep is selecting the correct bed mattress for your new platform bed. Due to the construction of the platform bed, box springs and mattress foundations are not needed. Platform beds consist of a flat, raised, horizontal surface that directly supports the mattress. The mattress is adequately supported with slats or thin solid paneling and this is what eliminates the need for the box spring. Many people are opting in for the favored memory foam mattress. First used in hospitals, this gel-like polymer is now a popular pillow and mattress material.

With the combination of the design of the platform bed coupled with a good mattress, the end result is a good night's sleep. Can you imagine having a good night's sleep every night? Well, the platform bed allows you to do just that. So, if you are thinking about getting your first platform bed, I highly recommend that you do. After you sleep in one, you will probably think that maybe Goldilocks did find the last Bear's bed to be "just right". Especially if it was a platform bed.

Umbrella Company Advice For IT Contractors

Opt the Right one

Selecting the right Umbrella business group is a minefield for IT Contractors.

So how does an IT Contractor know how which umbrella company will suit him or her?

Well, the first thing for an IT Contractor to do is to write down what she or he wants from an Umbrella Company.

Risky or Safe?

Is it a risky Umbrella corporation but with high returns that you want or an Umbrella Company with low returns but which will allow you to sleep well in your bed at night?

Is it an Umbrella Company where you do some of the paperwork or an Umbrella corporation who does everything for you that you want but who charges more for that?

Once you have answered these two questions you are well on your way to the Umbrella business that you want.

PAYE Company

For those who want to sleep well at night not worrying whether the taxman will come after you in the future and who would rather concentrate on IT Contracting and let the Umbrella business attend to the administration then a safe PAYE Umbrella Company would be just up your street.

However, if you are willing to take a bit of a chance with the promise of up to 87% returns on your money earned, then there are a number of offshore Umbrella Companies called EBTs which are basically Trust Funds set up on your behalf in places like the Isle of Man.

How to choose

It's your choice as to which type of Umbrella corporation that you want and which particular Umbrella Company to choose from and it will depend mainly on what type of person and IT Contractor that you see yourself as.

As I said, there are Umbrella Companies and then there are Umbrella Companies and there are Umbrella Companies. Which one is for you?

Converting an Antique Bed to a Modern Queen or King Size

Antique beds are rarely set up for today's queen and king sized mattresses and box springs. Most people want standard queen or king bedding, or at least the old standard, a full or double size.

Between 100 to 150 years ago, before fitted sheets, the exact size of a bed and mattress wasn't so important. The average height was much shorter, and beds could be any size with feather beds or home-made mattresses.

In the 1890's, manufactured bedding appeared, and the standard double or full size was around 72" x 52." Antique dealers refer to the older, smaller-than-double size beds as "three-quarter," although they can vary a great deal in size. Complicating the issue are European beds, built to entirely different dimensions.

The common problem is how to enlarge an antique bed to a modern desirable size without ruining the proportions and appearance of the original bed.

Our cabinetmakers have done conversions for many years. We utilize standard brown steel rails for either full/double or queen/king length. We attach these rails to the headboard with bolts that go securely through the headboard itself. Sometimes, we need to add a sturdy piece of wood to have a secure place to bolt the rails. At the footboard, we attach a rugged steel plate fitted with welded-on bolts. (We have never been able to find such plates, so we designed them and have them fabricated in a machine shop.) This application is done on the inside of the footboard so nothing shows from the outside. This enables the steel rails to be attached very securely with nothing showing on the outside of the antique footboard. The bed can then be set up and taken down repeatedly by simply unscrewing the nuts and bolts at each corner.

If it is ever decided to return these "converted" beds to their original sizes using the original wooden rails, the steel fittings can be removed with no visible damage to the bed itself.

Another factor in using antique bed frames for modern standard bedding is the thickness of springs and mattresses. Most bedding stores love to sell very thick or "pillow-top" mattresses that can be too tall and cover much of the beautiful old headboards. If more of the headboard should be showing, thinner mattresses and springs should be ordered from the bedding store. The point is to measure from the steel rails up to the desired top of the mattress to determine what thickness would be ideal before ordering a new mattress. The eventual appearance should be as planned, not the surprise of a foot taller than expected!
