Memory Foam Mattress Toppers and Pillows Guide

A memory foam mattress can drain your wallet fast. But what if you could get the same technology, the same restful sleep, for as low as a hundred dollars? It sounds too good to be true, but memory foam mattress toppers can bring the comfort of memory foam to your bedroom, no matter what your budget.

Memory foam has the unique ability to change density in response to heat and pressure. This means that it cushions pressure points while providing support for hollow areas, such as the neck and lower back. You immediately feel a difference when you lie down. Your entire body can relax without bending into uncomfortable positions to conform to a flat spring mattress. You can sleep through the night without waking up to flex tired muscles or change position. And, when you wake in the morning, those aches and pains are gone.

You can have that technology for a fraction of the price of a full mattress with a mattress topper. Toppers are thinner layers of memory foam that are designed to sit on top of a traditional mattress. They are available in two to five inch thicknesses and require no installation. Simply slip the topper onto your traditional mattress and make the bed. Suddenly, your firm, uncomfortable mattress is transformed into a softer, cushioned surface that still provides the support you need. Some sleepers who find that a memory foam mattress has too much give actually prefer a topper due to the extra support of the traditional mattress underneath.

When choosing a topper, it is best to be able to feel various densities and thicknesses of foam. For many, a two inch topper is ideal. For others, it makes very little difference in their comfort. Each person's body is unique and has different sleep posture needs. With a topper, you can choose a style that is best for your body. Most retailers have wonderful return policies. Unlike bulky mattresses, memory foam mattress toppers are easy to bring home - and take back, if necessary - making them an even easier investment.

However, the product will not make a sagging mattress more even. It requires a firm surface to support it, just as a memory foam mattress requires a firm base on which to sit. However, if your bed gives you the feeling of sleeping on a rock, a topper is an inexpensive, quality way to improve your sleep. No matter what your lifestyle is like, you deserve to live it to the fullest, refreshed and well-rested.

Slat System Platform Beds And Memory Foam Mattresses - How To Make Them Work Together

Many of today's latex and foam mattresses require special foundations in order to work with certain bed systems. The most popular of these mattresses are latex or memory foam mattresses. Often times the manufacturers of these mattresses tell you that you'll void the warranty if you don't use proper support for their mattresses. This can make shopping for a new bed somewhat challenging at times but there are things you can do to make it easier in finding the bed you like and making it work with your memory foam mattress. In this article we'll look at some of the many alternatives that exist that can help you in providing the proper support for your mattress and at the same time give you a bed that is both pleasing to look at and functional with modern mattresses.

A large majority of platform beds use a system of slats which make up the foundation of the bed system. This works well with mattresses that use a lot of batting be it cotton or cotton polyester as this helps to promote air flow. This in turn helps to keep moisture from collecting in the batting and improves the life of the mattress. However slat systems don't work so well with brands of mattresses which require a solid foundation so you'll need to make some minor modifications to use your existing bed or beds you're thinking about purchasing to make it work.

One option would be to use a ¼" sheet of plyboard over the existing set of slats. This covers the gaps between the slats and the slats beneath the plyboard will have trouble supporting the plyboard. The thin nature of ¼" should also help to hide it between the mattress and slats so that it isn't visible. It's best to measure the inside length and width of your bedframe where the mattress rests and subtract 1-2" from each dimension to be sure that the piece of plyboard you are cutting will fit correctly over the slats and won't hang over any edges. If you're worried about movement you can find non-slip material in most major hardware stores and home stores. It's the same material used in kitchen cabinets and under rugs to keep things from moving around.

Another option you can do is purchase a second set of slats. This option would give you maximum strength and support for almost any mattress and the extra set of slats can be placed in the gaps between the existing gaps to effectively fill in the foundation to be more solid. Because many slats systems are banded this may require you to purchase for a second set of slats that are unbanded which will allow you to place the slats more independently of each other between the slat system already in place.

In this article we've looked for ways to make existing platform bed systems comply with warranty requirements of mattresses which require a solid foundation. A few of the ideas presented here are just some of the many ways you can modify your existing bed system to work with your latex or memory foam mattress. One suggestion we presented here was using a ¼" of plyboard over existing slats to help form a solid foundation without gaps for your mattress. The other idea was to use a second set of slats and place them in between the existing slat system to fill in the gaps and make the foundation more solid. Always check with your mattress manufacturer to see what the warranty requirements are for your mattress to make sure that your bed's foundation will work with the type of mattress you are using. The ideas presented in this article will hopefully give you an excellent starting point in converting your existing bed system into one that will work with your new foam mattress.

In Memory of Grandma& Gramdpa with love

"WE ARE FREE" Do not grieve for us, now we are free. We have followed the path God laid for us. We took His hand when we heard Him call; we turned our backs and left it all. We could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that place at the close of day. If our passing has left a void then fill it with remembered joy. Or friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, and these things we too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. We are with you the sunshine of tomorrow. Our lifes been full, a loved ones touch. Perhaps our time seemed all too brief. Dont lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with us. God wanted us now, He set us free In loving memory of Vergil (2000) and Fairy Schraderof Liverpool NS went to be with the LORD on Jan.27, 2008, and was surrounded by her family and friends during her final days. Our research suggests that latex beds tend to have a smaller number of downsides than other bed types. Case in point, latex generally has good toughness and tends to not make the sleeper hot or give off a chemical smell initially, at least not as much as most other bed types. Further, a latex bed can be custom crafted to satisfy your personal firmness-level liking.

Memory (Visco-elastic) Foam

Memory foam beds overall scored behind latex beds and about equally to airbeds. Around 85% of memory foam bed owners indicated that they found their bed to be comfortable. The open cell structure of memory foam means it can equally support and contour to every part of the body.

Air

Air beds, like the Sleep Number Bed, scored nearly the same as memory foam mattresses. Air bed owners indicated that they appreciate the reduced pressure points that the air provides as well as the ability to change the firmness by increasing or decreasing air in the bed via an electric pump.

Innerspring Coil

Innerspring beds overall scored at the bottom. Around 55% of innerspring bed owners indicated that their bed provides good comfort. The shortcoming of these beds centers around sagging, in which peaks and valleys appear within just a few years of purchase and work to undermine comfort and support.
